Fontbonne University

SITUATION

Fontbonne University was going through a period of unprecedented transition in its enrollment management and financial aid staffing.  There were also significant changes in senior leadership with a new president and four new vice presidents.  The financial aid office was in disarray and its federal reporting was inconsistent.  Awards were late in coming and this was having a negative impact on overall enrollment and retention.

CHALLENGE

It was vitally important that financial aid systems and reporting be brought up to speed and in compliance.  Award letters and the financial award matrix needed to be aligned to better meet enrollment and retention needs.

SOLUTION

Todd Martin mapped out a plan to get all programs in compliance and begin building a new and responsive financial aid team.  He evaluated the work load distribution of the staff best aligned their skills to meet Fontbonne’s and its students’ needs.  He worked with leadership in enrollment management to better target institutional financial aid dollars to better meet enrollment targets.

RESULT

Fontbonne University is now better positioned to provide excellent customer service, comply with government regulations and maximize our investment of financial aid resources to grow enrollment and improve retention.  Overall morale in the office is significantly improved.

Testimonials

"Todd Martin arrived at Fontbonne University during a time of great transition in leadership and turmoil in the financial aid office and overall enrollment management.  Our federal reporting was behind schedule and inconsistent.  His keen assessment first resolved and brought up to speed all of our federal accounts, and he built a team in financial aid that was much more attuned to the needs of our students and their families.  Working with a new VP for Enrollment Management, he was able to better focus our award matrix to target prospective students and strengthen retention."
"CU consulting successfully addressed the challenges it faced here.  Among them were the need to fill several vacancies on our Financial Aid staff and to conduct a reconciliation of accounts going back several years that no one else had been able to complete.  CU is well informed and up to date on federal rules and brought its experience with best practice in the field to the work here."
Gary Zack, Ph.D.Vice President for Finance and Administration, Fontbonne University
